Seattle, my other hometown, was a fantastic place to take pictures at night. I really learned to love photography roaming the hilly streets well past my bedtime.
I took the long way home from Dallas one day in August 2009 — roughly from Corsicana through Mexia then southward and westward to Taylor and Round Rock. This is the Texas that is truly Texan — and notice how it’s in a state of protracted, baroque decline.
OKC is a place I primarily associate with my family, as I have a fair amount of relatives who live there. It’s a very interesting place, full of some of the best urban architecture from that sweet spot of 1930–1970.
Dallas has a unfair reputation in some circles — people often confuse the freeways encircling the Metroplex for the city itself, which is full of character.
